Additional Information

Dr. Teresa Dovalpage is a Cuban-born author and NMJC professor of Spanish, whose latest book, “Queen of Bones,” was chosen by NBC News as one of the “top 10 books from 2019 by and about Latinos”. Dr. Dovalpage will discuss the book, a mystery set “between Cubas” – 20 years apart.

The event is free to the public.

The novel explores lingering grudges between old friends and lovers separated by Castro’s final sanctioned raft exodus.
Publishers Weekly praised the novel: “Dovalpage skillfully evokes the lights and shadows of life in Cuba . . . Vibrant supporting characters such as Padrino, a Santería priest, and Lt. Marlene Martínez, a police detective, lend color. This moving tale of love, loss, greed, and betrayal will also appeal to non-mystery readers.”

Dovalpage’s books will be available for purchase at the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame. For more information about this event call 575-492-2678.
