Additional Information

Bring the family to the annual Dia De Los Muertos Family Fun Day. Arts and Crafts from 10am – 2pm, plus the Disney movie “Coco” at 2pm.

Beginning at 10am, kids can decorate “calaveras” or sugar skulls, and eat “pan de muerto”, a sweet bread with butter. They will make “flores de papel” (paper flowers) and “papel picado” (cut paper banners) and other traditional crafts. In addition, the NMJC Cosmetology department will paint faces – donations accepted (but not required). At 1pm, children can try to break a pinata, filled with candy.

An “ofrenda”, a temporary altar decorated with flowers and candles, is available for family members to bring pictures of their loved ones who have died. This tradition from Mexico and Central America typically happens on All Souls’ Day – October 31 – when families decorate the ofrenda with fruit, bread, candy or anything that the departed ones may have enjoyed, so their souls will return to enjoy.

All events are free. Plus visitors can enjoy the exhibit, “National Geographic’s Greatest Photographs of the American West” and “E Pluribus Unum”, a second exhibit on display at the museum. The museum will be open 10am until 5pm.
